CIAT-Shivpuri BRIEF HISTORY

An ancient city of Madhya Pradesh and a holy place, Shivpuri was earlier known as Sipri. The history of this place dates back to the Mughal period. The dense forests of Shivpuri were once the royal hunting grounds. Situated at an altitude of 478 meters above sea level, the city is one of the best of all the exotic attractions, which makes it a very peaceful destination for tourists. According to legend, the city is named after Lord Shiva. Till 1804 the city was known as the paradise of Kachhwaha Rajputs. After that it was ruled by the Scindia dynasty. Apart from this, Shivpuri also holds importance from the freedom struggle as it is the place where the great freedom fighter Tatya Tope was hanged. The forests of Shivpuri were the hunting areas of the earlier Mughal emperors.
