Journey of thousand miles began with a single step on 09/11/2013, with the establishment of RAF Academy for Public Order on ad-hoc basis in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
The then Home Minister inaugurated the country‘s first Police Academy for riot control and public order management training.
The Academy received its formal approval from Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India vide letter No.II.27012/62/2015-PF.III dated 01/11/2019 and Officer of the rank of DIGP as head of the institution. The Academy is one of its kinds in India.
RAF Academy For Public Order trains personnel to deal with law and order and riot like situations arising out of agitations, bandhs, festival duties and strikes having religious and communal overtones.
International Police Officers from Myanmar & Zimbabwe have been trained at this Academy. Personnel from Indian Army, Central armed police forces i.e. BSF, ITBP, Police personnel of various states have also been trained at RAPO. The academy also conducts pre deployment training for Male Formed Police Unit (MFPU) and Female Formed Police Unit (FFPU) personnel for various UN Missions sent from India.
Since inception RAF Academy for Public Order has trained more than 19500 Officers / Men in uniform so far on various subjects which include Crowd Management, Public Order Management, Mob Control, Media Management,Human Rights, Legal aspects concerning police personnel, Less than Lethal Weapons / Equipment and various other specialized courses.
The faculty posted at RAPO is highly trained / experienced which have been pooled in with varied educational /training backgrounds to match the requirements of RAPO for maintaining international standards. The feedback of the trainees is an added feather to the repute of the institution and multiplies in its pursuit towards excellence in Public Order Management.
