Central Reserve Police Force is a premier internal security agency. It was formed in the year 2010 as an operational sector for efficient conduct of Anti-Naxal operations in the state of Odisha and was upgraded as an independent sector in the year 2012. Earlier, Anti-Naxal operations in the state of Odisha were conducted by the Eastern Sector.
Sector Headquarters Office is located in the campus of Group Centre Bhubaneswar. Odisha Sector has a total of 10 administrative/operational battalions deployed in Naxal affected areas of Odisha, Naxal affected areas of Chhattisgarh and disturbed areas of Manipur. There are 2 operational ranges within the sector, namely Bhubaneswar Tac Nuapada and Range Sambalpur Tac Bhawanipatna. To provide medical facilities to CRPF personnel and their families, a 50 bedded Composite Hospital has been established at Group Centre Bhubaneswar and a 20 bedded hospital has also been established at Group Centre Sambalpur.
At present, a total of 6 battalions and 1 Cobra company are deployed in the state for anti-naxal operations. They are also deployed at other places to maintain peace and order in the state, such as in case of riots. The contribution of our units in maintaining law and order is commendable.
During anti-Naxal operations, brave soldiers of CRPF force have sacrificed their lives due to which Naxalism is on the verge of ending in Odisha today. We pay tribute to the brave soldiers and are moving towards eradicating it completely by the year 2026.
