Role and responsibilities of Southern Sector

The administration of the CRPF Units/ Establishments attached to the Sector is vested to the Inspector General of Police, who exercises the powers of Head of Dept, subject to the Supervision, Control and Direction of the Directorate General. The IGP is responsible to the Operational efficiency, Training and Welfare of the CRPF Units deployed in the area of responsibility as may be allotted by the Directorate General.
The main function of the Sector HQr is to oversee the administration of the Units/Establishment placed under Adm/Ops control of the Sector.

History

  • Consequent on restructuring of the Force, Sector-I, CRPF was created on 12th August, 1968 and started functioning at R.K. Puram, New Delhi.
  • Sector HQrs was shifted from New Delhi to Hyderabad during October, 1969.
  • The Sector was renamed as "Southern Sector” on 07/05/1987 and again shifted from Banjara Hills, Hyderabad to GC Hyderabad during June 2002.
  • Sector HQr was finally shifted to Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad during Feb 2008 and started functioning in its own office building at w.e.f. 02/03/2008
