"It is a matter of pride to command Tripura Sector which has rich legacy of operational excellence. During June 1980, large-scale ethnic clashes erupted between tribal and non-tribal people in the State resulting in large-scale killings and damage to property. In this backdrop, CRPF was initially deployed in the State during latter half of 1980. Subsequently, with the expansion of the Force and increase in insurgent activities in the State, Tripura Sector was raised in 1997 as Operational Sector and later on, converted into full fledged Administrative Sector in the year 2004 with Headquarter at Agartala (Tripura). CRPF along with civil police played pivotal and decisive role in counter-insurgency operations in Tripura. Sacrifice of CRPF officers and Jawans, coupled with excellent operational leadership exhibited by CRPF officers and support of people resulted in normalcy in the state of Tripura. Over a period of time, from the peak deployment of around eighteen Battalions, the deployment comes down to three Battalions. At present, Tripura Sector exercise operation control over three Battalions deployed in Tripura and Mizoram and administrative control over five Battalions deployed in Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur apart from one Range and a Group Centre. Tripura Sector has been in the forefront in extending helping hand to the poor and the needy. The CRPF units provide all possible assistance to the civilians from time to time. Civic Action Programs undertaken by the Sector in different regions of Tripura and Mizoram State have helped projecting the humane image of the uniform and has bridged the gap between the public and the Force. Winning hearts and minds remains core to any counter insurgency strategy. My greetings and good wished to all. I am confident that Tripura Sector will continue to dedicate itself to the service of Nation and develop its vision for impending challenges of internal security."
