History

Due to serious terrorist activities in Punjab during 1987-88, this sector was initially set up in Chandigarh as an Ops sector for Punjab & Chandigarh with effect from 03/08/1989. After restoration of normalcy in Punjab and due to the emerging security scenario in Jammu & Kashmir especially in Jammu Region, it was shifted to Jammu on 10/09/1998 with operation jurisdiction over CRPF units deployed in Districts of Jammu Zone viz, Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Doda, Reasi, Ramban and Kistwar. In order to streamline the functioning of force, the Sector was declared as Administrative Sector for DIG Jammu Range (6, 20, 22, 126 & 198 Bns) on 03/11/1998, DIG Hiranagar Range (16, 72, 166, 231 & 242 Bns) on 01/04/2012, DIG (Ops) Jammu North, GC Jammu, AWS  on 03/11/1998 and GC Hiranagar on 01/04/2012. Units under Ops Control of Jammu Sector are 6, 33, 38, 52, 72, 76, 84, 121, 126, 137, 160, 166, 187 Bn and ZTC Nagrota.
