History

The Central Zone is a crucial unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), created on August 7, 2009, in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and later moved to Kolkata on July 23, 2010. It has 8 sectors under its jurisdiction and covers 42% of India's landmass, from the Bay of Bengal in the east to Madhya Pradesh in the west, and from the Nepal border in the north to Odisha in the south.

To tackle complex and sensitive operational tasks, our brave and courageous men and officers are constantly deployed in remote areas and have achieved significant success in controlling Naxal activities in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) areas. Their selfless and dedicated services have earned the Zone 286 Gallantry Medals, 24 President's Police Medals for Distinguished Service, 163 President's Police Medals for Meritorious Service, and many other accolades, reaffirming the force's motto of "Service and Loyalty."

Apart from operational activities such as law and order maintenance, riot control, security of important shrines, disaster management, and VIP security, the Zone is committed to holistic development by providing security cover to development agencies in Naxal-infested areas of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Bihar. The Zone has also undertaken various civic action programs, such as skill development training and asset generation, to improve the economic condition of the rural poor and enhance their confidence in law enforcement agencies.
