An ancient city of Madhya Pradesh and a holy place, Shivpuri was earlier known as Sipri. The history of this place dates back to the Mughal period. The dense forests of Shivpuri were once the royal hunting grounds. According to legend, the city is named after Lord Shiva. Till 1804 the city was known as the paradise of Kachhwaha Rajputs. After that it was ruled by the Scindia dynasty.
