The Central Zone, is an important Zone in Central Reserve Police Force which came into existence on 7th August, 2009 at Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and later shifted to Kolkata on 23rd July, 2010. It has 8 Sectors in its jurisdiction and covers about 42% of the geographical area of our motherland from Bay of Bengal in the east to Madhya Pradesh in the west and from the international border with Nepal in the north to Odisha in the south. To deal with sensitive and difficult operational role, our brave and courageous men and officers are constantly deployed in remote areas and have achieved successes in controlling the Naxal activities in LWE area.  Owing to selfless and dedicated services, this Zone has been decorated with 286 Gallantry Medals, 24 President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 163 President’s Police Medals for Meritorious Service and many such laurels reiterating the commitment towards the Motto of the force – "Service & Loyalty”.  Apart from operational activities, like maintenance of law and order, riot control, security of important shrines, disaster management and VIP security etc. the Zone is committed to overall development by extending security cover to the development agencies in highly Naxal infested areas of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bihar etc.  The Zone has undertaken various civic action programmes like skill development training and asset generation for amelioration of economic condition of rural poor which has also enhanced confidence of locals in the role of law enforcing agencies.
