History
Due to serious terrorist activities in Punjab during 1987-88, this sector was initially set up in Chandigarh as an Ops sector for Punjab & Chandigarh with effect from 3.8.1989. After restoration of normalcy in Punjab and due to the emerging security scenario in Jammu & Kashmir especially in Jammu Region, it is shifted to Jammu on 10/09/1998 with operation jurisdiction over CRPF units deployed in Districts of Jammu Zone viz, Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Doda, Reasi, Ramban and Kistwar. In order to streamline the functioning of force, the Sector was declared as Administrative Sector for DIG Jammu (6, 20, 22, 126 & 198 Bns), DIG Hiranagar ( 16, 72, 166, 231 & 242 Bns), DIG (Ops) Jammu North, GC Bantalab, GC Hiranagar, AWS and FWS in addition to operational responsibility of Jammu Region w.e.f. 03/11/1998.
