IG, NES

CRPF, the premier Central Armed Police Force of the Union of India, owing to it multi-dimensional nature and capabilities, it is entrusted with the humongous mandate of Internal Security of the Nation. The dynamic and versatile nature of the force, has led to its deployment across the vast expanse of this Nation and in all the sensitive theatres. The dynamic nature of the force and its ability to keep up with the constantly changing requirements is the main reason for CRPF being the most sought after force to tackle any eventuality.

North East Sector, initially raised as Sector IV in the year 1976, was entrusted with the operational jurisdiction of the entire North Eastern Region. With the growing requirement for CRPF in the region, three other sectors were raised in the subsequent years.

In 1987, Sector IV was rechristened as the North East Sector. At present, the territorial jurisdiction of NES with respect to operations extends over the entire State of Meghalaya and 21 districts in Assam (Central, Lower & Barak Valley districts). Three Operational Ranges and 11 Battalions fall under the operational jurisdiction of NES. Further, NES exercises its administrative control over 02 Administrative Ranges and 10 Administrative Battalions.

At one point of time this sector used to be highly disturbed. However, due to the bravery and sacrifice of the members of this force, in consonance to the glorious tradition of this force, today, this sector is almost free from the presence of any major insurgent group.North East Sector while carrying out its operational and administrative mandate, it has simultaneously sought to bridge the gap between the force and the people through various Civic Action Programmes.

As the Inspector General of North East Sector, I am honored to command this sector. My best wishes to all our officers &  Jawans and I am confident that we will continue to dedicate ourselves to the service of our motherland and maintain peace in the region.
