A. Brief History

i)Historical Significance of Place-

RTC CRPF Humhama, situated in Budgam District of State Jammu & Kashmir. Budgam boasts of the only Airport in Kashmir Valley. It shares boundary with the Capital Srinagar (11 Kms). Budgam District came into existence in 1979, prior to which it was a part of Srinagar District. In former times it was a part of Baramulla District. Budgam District borders of the districts of Baramulla and Srinagar in the North, Pulwama in the South and Poonch in the South west. It consists of eight Blocks and seven Tehsils.

ii)Historical Significance of Institutional Building-

RTC Humhama, Srinagar, CRPF was sanctioned on 1st April 1990 and was made functional at Awantipura w.e.f. 07th July 1992 and was shifted to Humhama on 29th March 1994. This Institution is located in a sprawling and picturesque Campus in the Budgam District . Within a very short span of time since its establishment at this location Institution has surpassed the objectives of Training year-after-year, with an achievements galore.

iii)Glance of History of any nearby place-

Srinagar is the nearest City of this Instn which is largest City and summer Capital of Indian State of J&K. it is situated in the Kashmir Valley and lies on the banks of the Jhelum river, a tributary of Indus, and Dal & Anchar Lakes. The city is known for its natural environment, Gardens, Lakes, Waterfronts and Houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri Handicrafts and Dry Fruits. It is the Northernmost City of India with over 1 million people.

B. ABOUT US

i) Approach Route and Mode:-

Humhama is located in Distt. Budgam. It is situated on Srinagar road at a distance of 11 Kms from Srinagar City and 4 Kms from the Srinagar Airport. To reach Srinagar by Train, one has to reach either Jammu Tawi or Udhampur Railway Station. The distance from Jammu to Srinagar is approximately 320 Kms. By Bus or Car, it takes roughly 8-10 hours to reach Srinagar. Sheikh-Ul-Alam International Airport Srinagar is well connected and Airlines offer regular flights from Srinagar to Jammu, Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh. Recently, Hajj flights are playing direct from Srinagar Airport.

ii)Facilities for Sports and Training:-

Sports:-

Facilities for Indoor and Outdoor Games available at this Institution includes Hockey, Foot Ball, Basket Ball, Badminton, Tennis, and Indoor Games like Billiards, Carrom, Chess and Table Tennis.The Institute boasts of a well equipped Gymnasium for usage of trainees.

Training-

Recruit Training Centre, CRPF, Srinagar is one of the prestigious Training Centre of CRPF. This Institution imparts Basic Training to Recruits since 1992 and has trained 24225 Jawans of this Force, till date. This Institution also imparts Pre-Induction Training to improve physical/tactical proficiency to make Force personnel proficient to face different kind of L&O and Militancy challenges in the Valley.

Objectives of RTC, CRPF, Srinagar :-

This Institute has its mandated Primary Objectives and Secondary Objectives for Recruits.

Primary Objectives:-

§To condition a Recruit in his physical capabilities.

§To train him in effective handling of various Weapons being used by CRPF.

§To develop mental robustness, confidence and tolerance to withstand adverse operational conditions.

§To develop his professional skills so as to operate individually and as a member of his Section on joining in the field.

§To inculcate the quality to perform his duties as per direction of his Commander.

Secondary Objectives :-

§To develop secular approach and make him good citizen of Country.

§To develop his overall personality .

§To develop him as an Organizational asset.

iii) Climatic Condition

Recruit Training Centre, CRPF, Srinagar is located at 1800 Mtrs. above MSL. Temperature Variations is 35°C to -5°C. The Camp is adjacent to Frontier Headquarters/ STC of BSF on Srinagar-Budgam Road squeezed between Villages : Sheikhpora and Ompora.

iv)General terrain

The General topography of the area is both mountaineous and plains. Perched securely among the lofty snow-sprinkled mighty Himalayan mountain chains, the emerald blue skies peeping through the chinks of the clouds, the tall Chinar trees signing with the rhythm of the gusts of wind, all condense into a kind smile, forming the lovely Kashmir in the State of Jammu & Kashmir.

v) Flora and Fauna-

High areas of Srinagar fall under Alpine Vegetation zone while slightly lower areas have sub-tropical vegetation. During the months from april-June, different types of perennial and annual flowering plants can be seen in Srinagar. Due to favorable climatic conditions and availability of required soil type, different types of medicinal herbs and shrubs are found here. Trees like Chinar, Willows, Sliver Oak, Apple, Apricot, Walnut, Cherry and Pear are also seen in Srinagar. On the mountain slopes, colorful flowers are found in plenty. Numerous types of water lilies are found in the water bodies of Srinagar.

This Institution having faculty of Best Officers & Trainers in field of Training under close supervision of Sh. Jaidev Kesri, Commandant/Chief Training Officer, who is also a best appreciative, confident, committed and responsive Officer. The Team of RTC works under excellent command and control of Sh. Anil Kumar Singh, DIG/Principal who have adorable sincere Enthusiasm, Decisiveness and Managerial competence.

Sh. Anil Kumar Singh, DIG/Principal

Sh. Anil Kumar Singh, DIG, had joined this esteemed Force on 04th February 1991 as Directly Appointed Gazetted Officer. During the course of basic training at ISA Mount Abu he was adjudged for best trainees in Outdoors and Drill. He has vast experience of fighting militancy, insurgency, Naxalism and has remained deployed in various parts of Country which includes Punjab, J&K, NES and the resent slims in Sukma Distt. of Chhattisgarh, The most challenging Ops. theatre in the Country. He is one of the most illustrious Officer of the Force and has been decorated with a host of awards which includes Police Medal for Meritorious Service, Ops Vijay Medal, Special Duty Medal, Internal Security Medal etc. and has been awarded with DGs Commendation Disc/ letter 07. He has also rendered his service in UN Mission in KOSOVO and is a qualified UN instructor for Formed Police Unit (FPU). He was one of the founding members of CIAT, CRPF, Shivpuri and has the credit of raising it.

Sh. Jaidev Kesri, Commandant, had joined this esteemed Force on 15th July 1993 as Directly Appointed Gazetted Officer. He has gigantic experiences of fighting Militancy, Insurgency, Naxalism and has remained deployed in various parts of Country which includes J&K, NES and a stint at Dantewada Distt. of Chhattisgarh, The most challenging Ops theatre in the Country. He is a fitness enthusiast, a best appreciative, confident, committed and responsive Officer. He has been awarded with DGs Commendation Disc. He has also rendered his services in NSG and UN Mission in KOSOVO. The Officer is presently pursuing academics for Ph.D in Stress Management amongst CAPF personnel.
