The Central Zone, is the largest zone in Central Reserve Police Force which came into existence on 7th August, 2009 at Raipur (Chhattisgarh), it was later shifted to Kolkata on 23rd July, 2010. It has 8 Sectors in its jurisdiction which is the largest no.
of Sectors in a Zone in CRP. It covers about 42% of the geographical area of our motherland from east Bay of Bengal to west Madhya Pradesh and from the international border with Nepal in the north to Odisha in the south. To deal with sensitive and difficult
operational role, our brave and courageous men and officers are constantly deployed in remote areas and have achieved successes in controlling the Naxal activities in LWE area. Owing to selfless and dedicated services, this Zone has been decorated with 295
Gallantry Medals, 14 President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 253 President’s Police Medals for Meritorious Service and many such laurels reiterating the commitment towards the Motto of the force – "Service & Loyalty”. Apart from operational
activities, like maintenance of law and order, riot control, security of important shrines, disaster management and VIP security etc. the Zone is committed to rural development by extending security cover to the development agencies in highly Naxal infested
areas of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bihar etc. The Zone has undertaken various civic action programmes like skill development training and asset generation for amelioration of economic condition of rural poor which has also enhanced confidence of
locals in the role of law enforcing agencies.
10 Coys are deployed for security of three sensitive shrines i.e. Krishna Janam bhoomi-Shahi Idgah Masjid Complex at Mathura, Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid Complex at Ayodhya and Kashi Vishwnath Temple-Gyanvapi Mosque at Varanasi.
The Zone has 8 Sectors, 13 Ranges, 17 Group Centres, 83 Battalions, 8 Composite Hospitals, 2 CWS, 1 AWS, 2 CTCs, 3 RTCs, 1 CIAT, 6 ANTS (Anti Naxal Training School) including 1 ZTC (Ambikapur/Karanpur). Out of 83 administrative Battalions of this Zone 22
are deployed in J&K Zone, 6 are in NEZ and 5 are under the process of raising including 2 Mahila Battalions which are undergoing training at GC Ajmer and GC Lucknow respectively. 92 Battalions are deployed in the operational jurisdiction of this Zone, out
of which 24 are from South Zone, 4 are from J&K Zone, 9 CoBRA Battalions and 5 RAF Battalions and also includes 5 Units of Gadchiroli Range, which are under administrative jurisdiction of Western Sector of South Zone.
During the year from 2011 to September’2015 Battalions of this Zone have been able to neutralize 199 Naxals and apprehended 4279 Naxals. 851 Naxals have surrendered before our Force. Our men and officers have recovered huge quantity of arms & ammunition
i.e. 2845 arms, 35347 assorted ammunition, 36142 Kgs. of explosive, 3117 bombs, 2874 IED, 46056 detonators, 3510 gelatine sticks and Rs. 98,75,909/- lakh of cash, many other logistic materials and huge quantity of Naxal literatures.
