Communication setup in CRPF is headed by IG (Comn). He is the Principal Staff Officer to the Director General, CRPF to advise him on all Signal Communication including Crypto and IT matters. In addition to his duties as the Principal
Staff Officer to the DG CRPF, he also exercises the powers of HOD for communication sector. DIG (Signal Range) with Head Quarter at Kolkata, CTC (T & IT) at Ranchi, Communication Cell and IT Wings of Directorate are directly under the administrative control
of IG (Comn). DIsG (Comn), (Technical), (Equipment) and IT posted in the Communication Directorate, function as staff officers to DG/IG (Comn). All the 5 Signal Bns are under the Adm/Ops control of DIG (Signal Range).
The CommunicationSector is responsible to provide effective & efficient communication for the force deployed in multi-various role. It effectively manages the Wide area Network of CRPF connecting Directorate General to Group Centre.
It provides all types of training pertaining to Signal personnel, technical evaluation of all modern radio equipments/communication gadgets, repairs and maintenance of all kind of radio equipments, frequency allotment and Cipher uses in the Force.
Since 2005, communication sector also imparting training to all force personnel on IT to make them computer savvy. IT Wing managing complete SELO Intranet across pan India.
1st Battalion of Crown Representative’s Police was raised on 27/07/1939 at Neemuch with its four service and one Hqrcoys. To facilitate communication of newly born Battalion with higher ups and lower formation, Radio equipments
disposed off after second world war were provided to the Force.
A post of Police Radio Officer (PRO) was created during 1965 with HQrs at Neemuch to Supervise Communication of the Force which then consisted of 20 BNs. 1 Signal BN was also raised during the year 1965.
The post of PRO was subsequently renamed as Wireless Advisor (WA), then DD (Communication) and now as DIG (Communication).
